A housewife who is a mother of two was allegedly tortured to death over dowry at Char Keoar village in the district on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Shefali Begum, 22.
Her family alleged that her in-laws used to torture her regularly demanding dowry.
Shefali was forced to bring Tk 50,000 from her father a few days ago. Later, instead of returning the money they tortured her to bring more from her family.
On Tuesday night when Shefali refused to bring more from her father, her husband Yakub, 40, father-in-law Mona Sarker, brothers-in-law Yunus and Arif beat her mercilessly.
When Shefali died, her in-laws poured poison in her mouth and fled the scene.
However, their relatives have claimed that Shefali took poison after quarrelling with her husband.
