With serious acid injuries inflicted by husband, a housewife of Safderpur village in Kotchandpur Upazila is fighting for life at the local health complex.
Police quoted the victim, Josna Khatun, as saying that her husband Helal Khan beat up her before pouring acid on her face on Friday noon. Helal used to torture her for dowry since marriage in 2000, she said.
Hearing screams of Joshna, neighbours rushed to the spot, rescued the victim and sent her to Kotchandpur Health Complex where she was undergoing treatment as of filing of the report yesterday afternoon.
When contacted, victim's father Amin Uddin said he had given Tk 10,000 to his son-in-law as dowry. But he wanted more money and tortured her daughter regularly.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotchandpur Police Station said they are trying to arrest the culprit.
