Five people were killed and eight others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Trishal upazila this morning.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir, 25, Abdul Khaleque, 50, Lebena, 25, of the Trishal upazila and Kabirul Islam, 23, and Aminul Morol, 24, of Satkhira district, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.
Officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station told The Daily Star a sand-laden truck, which was also carrying vegetables on board, overturned in Signboard area at about 6:50am after its driver lost control over the steering, throwing the vegetables on the road.
Due to deep fog, a bus hit people as they were collecting the vegetables, killing four people on the spot and leaving nine others injured, he said.
The injured were rushed to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where one of them succumbed to his injuries.
Condition of the injured was stated to be critical.
